“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31, King James Version

What Keeps Me Awake At Night…

What keeps you awake at night?

For those who may have followed me for any lengthy period of time, and have read previous blogs that I tried to get started, you probably have noticed that I am much more active this time around. I’ve been posting a lot more, particularly late at night. There’s reasons for this.

One of the ways in which Multiple Sclerosis effects me is sleep. Effects or affects? Add that dilemma to the list of things that’ll probably keep me awake tonight! While I do take medication at night to help me relax and slow my brain down a bit, it isn’t something that kicks in within a matter of minutes. It’s kind of like a cruel game. Sometimes I’ll be ready to sleep within thirty minutes, while other times it make take a couple of hours. So the best way to kill the time and take advantage of this cruel game my brain wants to play, is to write to you about the things that are on my mind.

The name of this website came to me in one of those nights where I had some difficulty sleeping. Being a fairly patriotic person, and especially after serving in the military for sixteen years, I especially love eagles. When I was stationed in Alaska, my wife and I would often hike in areas that were known for an abundant population of bald eagles. They’re beautiful to watch. They’re majestic, fierce, and graceful. I have dozens of photos of eagles I took while on those hikes.

While the name is a direct quote from Isaiah 40:31, there’s more to it than that. It’s also about waiting, about strength, resilience, and overcoming obstacles. It’s about lifting others up regardless of how beat down and defeated you may feel at the moment (I specifically think of the hugely popular song, “Wind Beneath My Wings,” by Bette Midler). I think that’s a big thing that society lacks nowadays. We are so focused on taking care of ourselves, that we tend to brush off the hurt of others who are around us. All of this combined is really what I want to deliver through this blogging platform. I want this to be a place where regardless of who you are, you can draw some sort of strength and positivity through my thoughts that keep me awake at night.

Sure, there are some posts that may not be as appealing to some. I know beforehand that when I write a post that is more geared towards my Christian readers, that some of you won’t click on it. That’s okay! While I do 100% believe that the truths contained within the Word of God can be directly applied to anyone and everyone, I also understand that some have abandoned the idea of Christianity because of what a “Christian” has done to them in their past. I will be writing a post soon about the toxic church and why many have walked away from God. What I do hope is that you won’t apply those feelings of bitterness or resentment based off of a past experience, and limit yourself from reading and drawing something from one of my posts. I’m not Buddhist, however I can read a quote from Buddha and be able to apply it somehow to my life. I hope the same is true if you decide to step outside your comfort zone and read a post where I talk about something more theologically focused.

I write what applies to me. I don’t write about anything unless the topic somehow speaks to me. If I don’t feel it, I don’t write about it. I know this website isn’t going to make me rich. I am pleasantly surprised at how many viewers it has received in the short amount of time I’ve been writing here. I think being real and authentic is key when engaging in any form of art. The artist must be able to connect with the viewer or listener.

So there you have it. If you ever really want to know what’s been on my mind heavily lately, or what is keeping my brain from slowing down, all you have to do is come back and see what my latest post is. And I humbly hope you will!

Thanks for reading and spending this time with me!
